Attorney General Abbott Distributes Flash Drives in San Antonio to Protect Texas ChildrenSAN ANTONIO – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and law enforcement officers with the Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Unit, together with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), distributed child protection flash drives to Central Texas parents today at the San Antonio Missions baseball game. The flash drives help ensure parents can readily access critical information needed by authorities in the event a child goes missing.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued the following statement about the Cyber Crimes Unit and NCMEC’s joint child protection effort, which coincides with National Missing Children’s Day:
“When a child goes missing, every second counts. By storing photographs and identifying information on these flash drives, parents save precious time and ensure that law enforcement authorities can start the search effort immediately. The sooner a search begins, the quicker a missing child can be found and brought home.”

Attorney General Abbott, who was joined by San Antonio Missions General Manager David Gasaway and NCMEC-Texas Regional Office Executive Director David Boatright, distributed the software-enhanced flash drives at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium. The flash drives, which were developed by Family Trusted Child ID and sponsored by NCMEC, allow parents to digitally store their children’s essential identifying information, including recent photographs, height, weight, address, parents’ names and other important details. After giving away flash drives to families as they entered the San Antonio Missions game, Attorney General Abbott threw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.
In the event of an emergency, the flash drives are designed to provide quick information to law enforcement authorities, who can use the stored information to quickly publish Amber Alerts and launch other community search efforts. Funding for the drives was made possible by Dell Inc., McAfee, AT&T and Microsoft Corp., all of which made generous contributions to NCMEC.
“We know that teaching children about safety works. Community events play an important role in helping parents understand how they can help save a child’s life,” said Ernie Allen, President and CEO of NCMEC. “We are very grateful to our local partners who share our interest keeping children safe. They play an important role in raising public awareness in communities throughout America.”
