Ellison was named “Assistant Attorney General of the Year” for the Child Support Division’s San Antonio region, which covers 24 counties. First Assistant Attorney General Daniel Hodge presented the award to Ellison on Wednesday at the Statewide Assistant Attorneys General Conference in Austin.
“Lynn Ellison’s hard work and dedication help ensure thousands of young Texans receive the child support they need to become healthy, successful adults,” Attorney General Abbott said. “A committed and selfless public servant, Lynn stands out as one of the state’s most dedicated and impressive lawyers. We are grateful to Lynn Ellison for his commitment to Texas children.”

Deputy Attorney General for Child Support Alicia Key selected one assistant attorney general from each of the state’s nine child support regions, along with an assistant attorney general from the main office in Austin. Honorees are chosen based on recommendations from their peers and supervisors, with a particular focus on employees who are willing to go beyond their normal duties to serve Texas children. Each recipient demonstrates a desire to serve Texas families, help their colleagues and enhance the Attorney General’s Child Support Division.
Ellison, who joined the Office of the Attorney General in 2004, is responsible for establishing legally recognized relationships between children and their unmarried parents. As an assistant attorney general, he also works to establish, enforce and modify court orders that require parents to provide child support and medical support.
Ellison, a graduate of University of Texas School of Law, was chosen to be the region’s “Assistant Attorney General of the Year” because his passionate commitment to the mission of establishing and enforcing support for all families is balanced by his compassion for customers. Ellison’s colleagues praised his enthusiasm and willingness to assume additional duties when his office struggled with staffing shortages early this year.
“Lynn Ellison’s frank, yet professional demeanor has earned him the reputation of a worthy adversary and fair negotiator,” said Melissa Muñoz, senior regional attorney for the Child Support Division’s San Antonio region. “He is a valuable asset to the child support program.”
The Attorney General’s Child Support Division offers an array of services to help families,
including locating absent parents; establishing paternity for children born to unmarried parents; establishing, enforcing, and modifying child and medical support orders; and collecting and distributing child support payments.
The Jourdanton child support office covers Guadalupe and seven surrounding counties. In the state fiscal year that ended August 31, 2010, the office handled 14,355 cases and collected more than $28 million.
